The Strength to Keep Going

The Strength to Keep Going

Scripture:

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

“Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” — Romans 5:3-4

Reflection:

Recovery can feel like a long, winding road with more setbacks than progress. Some days you may feel like you’re barely holding on. Maybe you question if change is really possible or if the effort is even worth it. If you’ve felt this way, you’re not alone. The work of rebuilding a life—and rebuilding trust—is slow and sacred. It takes a strength that isn’t always visible and a kind of courage that shows up quietly, in small faithful steps.
God does not shame the slow pace. He honors the heart that keeps showing up. And He promises that perseverance does something in us—it shapes us, steadies us, and ultimately, leads us toward a hope that is not rooted in our performance, but in His unchanging faithfulness. The journey matters to Him, even when it feels like you’re not moving fast enough. You are not behind. You are not failing. You’re healing. And healing takes time.

Prayer:

Faithful God,

You see how tired I am. You know how hard this has been. Some days I want to give up, to go back to what’s familiar—even if it kept me stuck. But Your word assures me that the struggle is not wasted. That even in the slowest, hardest parts, You are shaping me. Grow in me the kind of perseverance that leads to hope—a hope that doesn’t hinge on quick change, but rests in Your steady love. Give me strength for today. Light for my next step. And peace that I’m not alone in this. Amen.

Practice:

  • Think of one small way you’ve persevered this week. Write it down and thank God for that moment of strength.
  • Read Galatians 6:9 and Romans 5:3-4 slowly. Let the words remind you that your perseverance is doing something sacred.
  • Invite someone to walk with you. Share your desire to stay in the light, and ask them to help you keep going.
