Online Christian Counseling in California

You want a Christian counselor and you are not near Ventura. Landmark Christian Counseling is Spencer Posey’s practice. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #141641) and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). He meets with clients by video anywhere in California.

Who online counseling is for

Anyone in California. That is the one requirement, and it is a legal one. More on that below.

People far from Ventura. Someone in Sacramento, Fresno, San Diego, or a small town in the foothills has the same access to a session as someone who lives down the street from the office.

People who want a specialty they cannot find nearby. Certified Sex Addiction Therapists are not in every town. Neither are counselors who treat betrayal trauma, or who are trained in EMDR, or who will say plainly that they are Christians. If the counselor you need is not within driving distance, online sessions close that gap.

What is treated online

Landmark treats four things, and all four are available online.

Compulsive porn use and sexual addiction. Weekly individual work for the person who has tried to stop and wants treatment that addresses the pattern under the behavior.

Betrayal trauma and infidelity. For the partner who found out, and for couples deciding whether the marriage can be rebuilt.

Formal disclosure. A structured, therapist-guided process in which the full truth is told once, in a controlled setting. Parts of this may be better in person. See below.

EMDR. For memories that still produce a physical reaction months or years later. EMDR may be delivered by video with adjustments to the bilateral stimulation.

What online sessions are like here

Sessions are by video on a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. You receive a link before the appointment. You click it at the session time. There is nothing to install beyond what the platform asks for.

Privacy is your side of the arrangement. Spencer’s end is a private office. Your end needs to be a room with a door you can close and where no one will walk in. A parked car works for some people. Headphones help if the walls are thin.

What to have ready. A charged device with a camera. A stable connection. A glass of water. For couples sessions, both partners on one screen in the same room, or on two screens if you are apart and have agreed on that with Spencer.

If the connection drops, Spencer will call the phone number on file. Keep it nearby.

When in person is better

Weekly individual work, partner trauma work, and ongoing couples work all translate to video with the same structure as a session in the office.

Some things are harder on a screen. A formal disclosure session carries a lot of weight, and having both people in one room with the therapist can matter. Early EMDR sessions may go better in person for someone who dissociates or has trouble staying grounded. Spencer will say so during the assessment if he thinks in-person is the better choice for part of your work, and clients who can get to Ventura may do a mix.

How faith fits

Landmark is a Christian practice. Spencer believes that Christ is the source of healing and that clinical treatment is one of the means He uses. Prayer and Scripture may be part of a session. That does not change on a screen. Clients who are not Christians are welcome and receive the same care.

Who provides it

Spencer Posey, LMFT #141641, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. He started Landmark Christian Counseling in 2024 for people in the Christian church struggling with compulsive porn use and other unwanted sexual behaviors. He is trained in EMDR and in PACT, a couples model. He sees clients in person in Ventura and by video across the state.

Licensing, stated plainly

Spencer is licensed in California. California law requires a therapist to be licensed where the client is located at the time of the session. So online sessions with Landmark are for people who are physically in California when the session happens. If you move out of state, or you are traveling when an appointment falls, tell Spencer ahead of time.

Fees and insurance

Landmark is a private-pay practice and is not in network with any insurance plan, including Medicare. The fee for a 50-minute session is $225, in person or online. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, it may reimburse part of the fee for telehealth. You can check your benefits before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Is online counseling as effective as meeting in person?

For individual therapy, the structure of a session is the same on video as in the office. Some of the specialty work Landmark does, such as a disclosure session, may go better in a room. Spencer will tell you if that applies to you.

Can we do couples counseling online?

Yes. Both partners join the session, from one screen or two. Spencer may ask to meet with each partner alone as part of the assessment.

What if I live in California part of the year?

Sessions are available while you are physically in California. While you are out of state, they are not. Plan around that with Spencer.

Do I need to be a Christian?

No. Landmark is a Christian practice and Spencer’s faith is stated openly. Clients of any background or no faith are welcome and receive the same care.
