What Landmark treats
Landmark is a small practice with a narrow focus. Four problems bring people to it. If yours is one of them, the rest of this page tells you what treatment looks like and how to start.
Compulsive porn use or sex addiction. Men who have tried to stop on their own, sometimes for years, and want treatment that addresses the pattern under the behavior. Spencer holds the CSAT credential, which is specific training for this work. Porn and sex addiction counseling
Betrayal trauma. Partners who found out. The symptoms can look like PTSD. Intrusive thoughts, trouble sleeping, hypervigilance, and checking a phone again and again are trauma responses. Treatment starts with your safety and your need for the truth. Infidelity and betrayal trauma counseling
Couples deciding what comes next. Some couples arrive after an affair. Others arrive worn down by years of distance or conflict. Spencer is trained in the PACT model and meets with both partners, then each partner alone, before any plan is set. Couples therapy
Trauma that talk therapy has not reached. EMDR is the tool Spencer may use for memories that still produce a physical reaction months or years later. For a betrayed partner, that can include the memory of discovery day. EMDR therapy
How faith fits
Landmark is a Christian practice. Spencer works from the belief that Christ heals and that clinical treatment is one of the means He uses. Faith is where Spencer starts, and it shapes how he understands both the problem and the person in front of him. Prayer and Scripture are part of the work. So are assessment, a written plan, and methods with research behind them. Clients who are not Christians are welcome and receive the same care. You set the pace.
What a first session looks like
Before anything is booked, Spencer offers a free 15-minute phone consultation. You describe what is going on. He tells you whether Landmark is the right fit or points you to someone who treats it.
The first full session is an assessment. Spencer asks what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. You do not need to have the words for all of it yet. For couples, he meets with both partners together and then with each partner alone, so each person can say what they would not say in front of the other. The aim is a plan with a clear next step by the end of the first or second session.
The office on Main Street
Landmark’s office is at 1560 East Main Street, Ventura, CA 93001. It is a shared building with the Ventura Compassion Collective.
Park in front of the building or along its side. When you book, you receive a code for the lobby door. Let yourself in and wait there; Spencer comes out to get you. If the code does not work, text the office number and he will come down.
Hours: Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Who comes here
Clients drive in from Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Ojai, and Santa Paula. Online sessions are open to anyone in California, so the same work is available from Santa Barbara, the Conejo Valley, or anywhere else in the state. An online session follows the same structure as one in the office. You need a private room, a steady connection, and the same hour set aside.
Fees and insurance
Landmark is a private-pay practice and is not in network with any insurance plan, including Medicare. A 50-minute session, individual or couples, is $225. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, it may reimburse part of that fee after you submit a receipt. You can check your benefits on the Verify Insurance page before you book.
Questions people ask before booking
Do I have to be a Christian to come here?
No. Landmark is a Christian practice and Spencer does not hide that. Clients of any faith or none are welcome and receive the same clinical care.
Is Landmark a fit if my problem is not on the list above?
Maybe not. Landmark is a narrow practice on purpose. If you call about something outside these four areas, Spencer will say so and help you find a therapist in Ventura who treats it.
Can my spouse and I both see Spencer?
It depends on the situation. For couples work, yes. When one partner needs individual treatment for compulsive sexual behavior and the other needs treatment for betrayal trauma, Spencer may recommend that each partner have their own therapist so neither one is managing the other’s treatment.
How long will I be in therapy?
There is no set number of sessions. It depends on what you are treating, how long it has been going on, and what you want to be different. Spencer reviews the plan with you as you go and tells you what he sees, including when he thinks the work is done.
